They resolved to get together to find a semi- retirement paradise they could escape to “if” things in Hong Kong under Chinese rule became intolerable.
The criteria for their search were as follows:
The location had to have convenient/direct flights to Hong Kong and other international destinations so they could carry on their businesses.
Ideally airport had to be within 15-30 minutes of the location.
The majority wanted a location on a beach front.
Cost of maintenance had to be low and complex had to be hassle free – they were there to relax.!!
Cost of living had to be low..
They had to have easy access to inexpensive English speaking domestic helpers/maids/drivers.
A Safe and secure environment and surroundings, were essential
Access to decent restaurants , and shops.
After months of discussing possible destinations they came to the conclusion that a seafront location in Cebu, Philippines that was for sale might be the best value for money option. They made an offer for the seafront lot – it was accepted and CORAL POINT was born – After many more months of construction!!
Now as we know the handover to the Chinese went smoothly and nothing much changed in Hong Kong so most of these expatriates have continued to live and work in Hong Kong and only venture to Coral Point for long weekends occasionally – Meaning most of the time the complex is almost like a private resort and the pools and common areas are empty and you have this paradise complex almost to yourself…
